The Brotherhood has called on Jordanian authorities to release its official.

A senior leader of Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood was arrested late Thursday after remarks critical of the UAE’s recent move to list the movement as a terrorist group, Reuters reported.

Zaki Bani Rushaid, a deputy leader of Jordan’s Brotherhood chapter, was accused of “souring relations with a friendly country,” the news service said, citing unnamed official sources.

Jordan has a history of squashing criticism of its important financial partners in the Gulf, the report said. Bani Rushaid had written an editorial decrying UAE policies.

The Brotherhood has called for his immediate release, the report said.
