Three-year-old Yahya was born with no eyes, nose, or upper jaw because the bones in his face failed to fuse in the womb. But he is now preparing for life-changing reconstructive surgery to give him a new face according to Sunday Night.
Yahya was born in a tiny village in Morocco, but a picture on Facebook changed his life forever when a Moroccan-born Melbourne woman, Fatima Bakara, decided to track down a surgeon to help him.
“She’s making the impossible possible to help Yahya and to help us and we are incredibly grateful to her,” Yahya’s father said.
Bakara tracked down Reconstructive surgeon Tony Holmes.
“I believe that it’s the right of everybody to look human and this kid doesn’t look human,” Dr. Holmes said.
After assessing Yahya in person he said that it will be a very difficult case, as in 9-9.5 out of 10 degree of difficulty. He hopes to complete the first of many surgeries in Melbourne by the end of the year.
