Several hundred anti-Israel protesters marched from Cardiff City Hall towards the stadium where Israel’s Euro 2016 football game against Wales is set to take place Sunday evening, the Jewish Chronicle reported.
The protest, from the Stop the War Coalition and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, will face an anticipated 200 supporters of the Israeli team, in a counter protest dubbed a “pre-match celebration of Israel.”
The counter protest was organized by the British Zionist Federation and several pro-Israel grassroots groups, which were laying on transport for activists who wanted to support the Israeli team.
A photographic exhibition showing Jewish and Arab co-existence through football in Israel was closed by the Cardiff city council on Thursday, less than a day after it had opened.
The council said it had acted after a receiving a complaint about the exhibition and in light of the planned demonstrations around the Wales-Israel match.
The move was condemned by the Israeli embassy in London.
